Overview

The MNH Mentor will introduce and improve Health Facilities provision of Maternal and Newborn Health services and ensure that they are integrated with and strengthen other health services. Ensure that all Maternal and Newborn Health services meet national guidelines and care and treatment protocols and PEPFAR standards of care. Ensure accurate data recording and reporting, and effective linkages with served communities. Assist in training and overseeing district health staff to mentor other facilities within the district. 

Specific Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance to the MOH Districts in the area of MNH program planning, management, and organizational development
  • Assist the District Management Teams to update newborn and child health standards, including essential newborn care.
  • Provide technical support in newborn and child health to ONSE Supported districts.
  • Mentor and strengthen supported District teams on MNH activities
  • Coordinate program support to the MOH to review and update RMNH training curricula, guidelines, and standards, checklists and roll them out to RHBs for implementation.
  • Develops and maintains newborn and child health programmatic links with PMTCT and pediatric HIV programs.
  • Implement program capacity building of DHMT’s potential sub-recipients in identifying and addressing MNH service utilization barriers.
  • Monitor program facilitation of active networking and partnership between stakeholders to strengthen their common vision and promotion and service delivery of key MNH interventions and best practices provided at community and health facility level.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelors’ degree in Nursing, Clinical Medicine or any related field
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the provision of comprehensive Maternal and Newborn health care services;
  • Clinical experience working in an Health Facility environment; Public health experience;
  • Experience in mentorship, quality improvement, monitoring and evaluation, and HMIS desirable; Experience working with an NGO for supporting public health and quality improvement desirable; Fluent in written and spoken English essential.
